This fountain is currently not set up and not in operation.
Depiction:
The fountain is a walk-in water installation. Geometrically, an unfolded cube rests on a hexagon on the ground.
The outer walls consist of water jets, and ten additional water jets divide the fountain into individual sections within the six outer walls.
Viewed from above, this creates a water cube surrounded by a hexagonal structure.
The 2.5-meter-high water jets change their height via computer control, constantly forming new "water spaces."
Visitors can move through the water labyrinth, with the computer-controlled settings continuously redefining and altering the surrounding spaces.
It's quite possible to get wet if you linger too long in the wrong spot and the jets suddenly shoot up.
History:
In 2012, Jeppe Hein's "Hexagonal Water Pavilion" was installed in Nuremberg. Following exhibitions in Rome and Linz, the fountain was inaugurated on May 15, 2012, in Klarissenplatz, in front of the "Neues Museum Nürnberg".
Throughout the summer, the fountain attracted considerable public attention. Thanks to the "Hexagonal Water Pavilion," Klarissenplatz was filled with people of all ages, and the water jets proved to be a particularly appealing play element for children.
The fountain gave Klarissenplatz a focal point, a crucial factor from an urban planning perspective.
The overwhelming public response prompted the "Neues Museum Nürnberg" to prepare to acquire Jeppe Hein's water installation. Following a fundraising campaign initiated by the Nürnberger Nachrichten newspaper (55,000 euros), the following organizations contributed to raising the necessary funds to secure the fountain's long-term connection to the museum the Sparkasse Nürnberg's Future Foundation, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce's Cultural Foundation of Middle Franconian Business, the Förderstiftung Neues Museum in Nürnberg (New Museum Support Foundation), the Friends and Supporters of the Neues Museum Nürnberg association, the Rotary Clubs in Nuremberg, the Carl Friedrich Eckart Foundation, the Hotel Victoria Nürnberg, and numerous private donors.
The fountain was purchased in 2013 for 225,000 euros.
