Depiction:
The bronze figure on the fountain depicts a seated youth playing a shawm (a type of pipe or bagpipe).

The sand basin is shaped like a stylized flower, and a decorative grille is attached to the upper edge of the basin.

The figure can be dated to 1380 based on its clothing.

History:
The original Hansel fountain is located in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum.

In literature, the "Brunnenhansel" is interpreted as a symbol of vitality, but also as a personification of music, which is intended to remind us of the transience of life.
