Depiction:
A small well in a rock niche that provides only small amounts of water and is now closed off with a wrought-iron grate.
History:
In the early days of Nuremberg, groundwater present at various levels in the castle sandstone provided a simple and high-quality water supply for the first castle complexes.
Just a few meters below the well house of the Deep Well, the Margarethenbrunnen, which has a low flow rate, flows from the uppermost aquifer of the Middle Burgsandstein and is likely one of the oldest water extraction points in Nuremberg.
