Depiction:
The upper basin of the two-part fountain features a standing female figure.

The second female figure on the lower basin stands bent over, looking down.

History:
The first design for the fountain, which was donated by Kurt Klutentreter, was intended to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Martin Behaim with a stylized view of Nuremberg and a slender, tall female figure holding a globe aloft.

The city architect at the time, Walter Anderle, rejected this design and facilitated contact with the artist, who developed a new design.

Although Klutentreter did not like this design, the commission was awarded and the fountain was donated. The donor plaque originally installed was later replaced.
